Elsies River boasts a smoother Jan van Riebeeck Drive

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to thank residents and commuters for their patience while the rehabilitation of Jan van Riebeeck Drive (M12) in Elsies River was ongoing. The project is now complete and the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, visited the site yesterday to see the improvements.
The section earmarked for the rehabilitation project stretched from the intersection with Francie van Zijl Drive to Epping Avenue, and covered both the northbound and southbound carriageways. The project commenced in November last year and is now complete.
‘The purpose of this rehabilitation project was to restore and strengthen the existing road, enhance its structural integrity and expand its longevity. Jan van Riebeeck Drive is an important arterial route and the section that was rehabilitated links Voortrekker Road in Parow with the M16 (Francie Van Zijl Drive) in Elsies River. I visited the site yesterday to see the quality of the work and I must say it was a real pleasure to see the new road surfacing and kerbs. I want to thank commuters and residents for their patience while the project was ongoing and as we worked toward keeping Cape Town moving. All of us will benefit from the work for years to come,’ said Councillor Quintas.
The roadworks included strengthening the underlying road layers, placing of new road surfacing layers and constructing new kerbs, channels, catchpits, and manholes where necessary.
